Copper Tacks Copper Tacks Copper Tacks Copper Tacks

I learned to stretch canvas for my paintings in high school. At that time I used regular carpet tacks, light weight wooden stretchers and fastened the canvas onto the sides of the stretchers. Years later I began doing a "gallery wrap" which means fastening the canvas onto the back side of the stretchers. This suited me very well as I do not like to distract from my paintings by putting frames on them.

Several years later I discovered copper tacks and from then on, I will not use any others. One day while I was stretching a canvas I was "told" why I feel so strongly about using copper tacks. Energetically, there is a healing copper grid that manifests and is projected out to the viewer.

I was impressed to count the number of "coppers" in each of the four directions, honoring the Native American way and thereby calling in the Spirit Keepers of the Four Directions. I then penciled in the information on the back of the canvas.

Anima-Animus Back of Painting Copper Grid on Back of Painting
This is the back of my Soul Portrait of the Dalai Lama. There are 28 coppers in the east, 26 coppers in the south, 28 coppers in the west and 26 coppers in the north for a total of 108 coppers. His mother, the female (anima) and the Dalai Lama as a young boy, male (animus) profiles showed up as I painted on either side of the Dalai Lama's head.
